Rashida: Before we get started, thank you so much for taking the time out to speak with AFIYA Magazine!
Kristie: You’re welcome and thank you for having me!
R: On your website you share a story about you speaking up during a college class which was a big moment for you. What do you think helped you to find that confidence in yourself and start you on the path to being confident in who you are?
Kristie: There is a quote that sums it up, “And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more than the risk it took to blossom” by Anais Nin. You can have fear and courage, and both will be battling one another, but when the courage is greater than the fear, then you become someone else and begin to do something different. I believe at that point, courage rose up in me, and I thought, “Okay, you know what? I’m not going to live in this prison of my own fears anymore. If I fail, I’ll just get back up.” Part of the process of growing is making mistakes. So we shouldn’t see the mistakes as failure. It’s all about our perspective.
