A Lady Named Pearl
Why She Promotes Self-Love and Leadership
Pearl Fils-Aime has a beautiful and powerful look which commands attention. With grace, style and presence, the Haitian beauty has made the decision to use her gifts in all areas of life while empowering others to do so. As the founder of A Lady Named Pearl Modeling and Leadership Academy, Pearl has taken her experiences and created an avenue through which she can give back to others. A dynamic triple threat—performing artist, model and educator—Pearl spoke with AFIYA Magazine about what has led her to this point and why she encourages to reach for similar heights.
Since she was a child, Pearl has always found interest in the world of music. “My mother was a singer, and I would sing when I was with her all the time. Eventually, I fell in love with it,” shares Pearl. During elementary school she played instruments and performed in school choirs, and she continued to pursue music during middle and high school. It was through one experience during her university years that Pearl was able to begin her musical career. After being given the ability to do background vocals for a rapper, she decided to try her hand at rapping. “After doing the singing, I thought to myself, ‘I think I could rap’,” shares Pearl “So I asked to come into the studio to do so, and I ended up having the opportunity to rap on a song that made its way on to the radio which is how my music career began.”
